Surfing Information...
Surfing is one of the main reasons Mal País and Santa Teresa are even on the map today. Although a well-kept secret for many years, and then only among the hard core surfers due to the difficulty of arriving to the area, the consistent beach breaks and more infrequent point breaks in the area now attract numerous people each year. From beginners to the experienced, Playa Carmen and Santa Teresa offers waves for everyone. Beginners be AWARE: although the sandy breaks of El Carmen are good for beginners to start on, you MUST learn some of the ethics of surfing to avoid injuring yourself, or someone else. Please check with the surf shops and/or with your surf instructor for some of these “rules of the waves” to avoid any accidents.
